Harvest hosts is a great way to experience a new place on a very personal level. We have been guests at a variety of locations, everything from exclusive winery's to personal homes. Reading the reviews often paints a clear picture of what your proposed location will be like. Do not expect any form of bathroom facilities. But often enough you just want to enjoy serinity and not have to put your polite face on and introducing yourself and tell your story. That is why we are camping after all. After all we will continue to mostlly stay at campsites with the occasional Harvest Hosts visit. - Plan to quarantine on a campsite
- don't bring any plastic toys, or at least bring just a small bag and hide them away! - bring books to read and color in and crayons - make sure you got kids gear for all weather - stock up on wine (seriously) We are quarantining on The Medicine Farm in Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. It's a real special place and I recommend this experience to anyone. I believe we had rain for the first 4 days straight. Still the kids wanted to play outside, so out come the rain boots and the rain jacket. Put any soaked clothing up on a line to dry out once the sun comes back. Our kids are 2 and 4. they both seam to have an endless amount of ideas of how to have fun in this rain forest. from playing puppy (one is on a pretend leash as a puppy, the other is the boss), to creating songs that tries to help with the poty training (shake it out-shake it out in the morning.....) The bottom line is, go explorer with your kids, be a kid, do something new every day, from building a fire ring, to putting up a canopy or some lines to hang cloths, to playing and creating songs to learning how to count and read. Kids want to do everything you are doing, and while that can be challenging to have your little one help with cooking dinner, doing this while quarantining is probably the best time, because you ain't got shit to do anyways. might as well be patient, take the time you have and bond with your kids, or your partner! When did you last just sit together with your partner and where not just physically but also in spirit and mind connected, with no rush of getting to the next thing? I haven't in months, sadly, maybe in the last year. So: Be loving, be patient, be forgiving. Realize how amazing of an experience you can have with your kids if you try to see things from their POV. I am still only 10 days in, so i'll keep ya posted! |
