I was climbing this more difficult route once. It required more technique and strong mind, then strength. So at one point while lead climbing this route, I got super nervous. I started grabbing the holds on a different and easier route just next to it as I started totally freaking out and allowed myself to cheat. I finished the climb on the easier route and then got lowered down by my partner.
Back down on the ground my partner gave me a good lesson, which I fully understood only when I came back next time to climb. He said "You should start to fully commit to the things you decide to do. You either go or do not go. Dont be half ass about things. Commit a 100%!" These words got burned deep in my soul. The next time I came back to the gym to climb the same route, I did not gave up climbing it. I thought very deeply about my partners words from last time and then started the climb. I fall at least three times. But I kept climbing it and did not change to the easier route as a help. Somehow I managed to get to the top. Even thought I might not have climbed the route in one go, I was still very proud and super thankful for my partners advice and support. Also, every time I go run (which is really super duper hard for me to be motivated about, but slowly becomes easier), I always have to shout out these words "COMMIT! 100%! No messing around! Yes or No!" This pushes my energy level and keeps me going. Specially when the running path goes a little steep up. Every time, when I get close to stop and take a break I keep pushing myself with these words. So far, it always kept me going. This, once more, proves to me, how important the right mind set is. If you want, you will get it. Just believe it.
